iPod Camera Connector & Cameraphone Media Reader

iPod Camera Connector

This simple little attachment connects your digicam to your color-screen iPod using the USB cable that came with your camera. Hook it up and your iPod offers to transfer the content of your camera to the iPod, then asks if you'd like the camera erased. You should generally choose this option, because if you donāt you'll just keep reimporting the same photos over and over ÷ the Camera Connector is kind of retarded about this.

Once you have the photos in the iPod, you can view them but only at low resolution. To view them on a TV display, you need to sync with your computer so they can be processed through iTunes, then brought back to the iPod in the proprietary multi-res format Apple devised.

This device doesnāt work with USB flash drives or flash card adapters, which was a big letdown for me. I have several cameras with different card formats so I carry miniature adapters instead of a messy tangle of cables to get the pics into my PowerBook. Still, for most people, this is a swell little unit that adds another dimension to your color iPod experience.

Cameraphone Media Reader
Now hereās one of those products that should have come out a year ago. The Memory Data Suite MA-800 is a flash card reader with special software designed to make it easy to move media files to and from your phone. What took you so long, guys?

Mobile Action has been making mobile management software for most of the world's mobile phones for years, so they know what they're doing. The card reader is unremarkable except that it has support for 25 card formats. That sounds impressive, but there is some overlap so the distinction is academic.

Hereās the list:

  • Compact Flash Type I (CF)
  • Compact Flash Type II
  • MicroDrive
  • Magic Store
  • SmartMedia ROM
  • T-Flash
  • MultiMedia Card (MMC)
  • MultiMedia Card 4.0
  • Reduced Size MMC (RS-MMC)
  • Reduced Size MMC 4.0
  • Reduced Size MMC Mobile
  • Secure Digital (SD)
  • Secure Digital Mini
  • Memory Stick
  • Memory Stick Pro
  • Memory Stick Duo
  • Memory Stick Pro Duo
  • Memory Stick ROM
  • Memory Stick Magic Gate
  • Memory Stick Select
  • Memory Stick Pro Ultra Type II
  • Memory Stick Duo Magic Gate
  • Memory Stick Pro Magic
  • Memory Stick Pro Duo Magic Gate

All righty then! If one of these formats doesn't work, you're still living in the 20th century and desperately need a new phone, dude. Check the website listed below for the latest supported phones.

If you want to take total charge of your mediaphone's capabilities, this product is what you need.
