Rollei Minidigi
There
was some debate among the editors as to whether or not the Rollei
MiniDigi is an actual camera we should review or a mere novelty
item ÷ a collectible with eBay written all over it. Turns out, the
latter is closer to the truth, but that doesn't mean we canāt have
some fun with it. Whether or not you, dear reader, will want to
part with $350 to own one depends on how much joy you imagine it
will bring into your social life.
Like
the classic, early 20th century twin lens reflex camera it is modeled
after, the MiniDigiās hooded, square format viewfinder is seen from
above. And just to drive home that vintage feel, you turn the crank
to ćadvanceä the ćfilmä after each exposure. The fixed f2.8 lens
and tiny CMOS sensor delivers 2-megapixel images that wonāt win
any photography contests but are adequate for party snaps of ephemeral
importance. A second sensor in the other lens deliver the viewfinder
image. Images are stored on standard SD media, so youāll need a
card reader to get them into your computer to view or print. There
is no flash and no USB connection.
The
MiniDigi is just a very fun little retro-styled camera for eliciting
oohs and ahhs from your drunken friends. Just be sure you bring
along a real digicam in another pocket if you want some real pictures
to keep after the hangover subsides. www.rollei.jp/e
